Daily Devotion to Proverbs: Day 2

October 2, 2025 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Daily Nugget:
In Proverbs 1, Solomon revealed that the beginning of obtaining wisdom is to reverence, respect, and regard the Lord (Proverbs 1:7) and His commandments. This trust in God is referred to as “the fear of the Lord.”

Trusting in the Lord and His guidance is further expounded in Proverbs 2. After hearing His words from the Bible or sources referencing it, they will often be stored (“hide”) in the back of one’s mind and accessed when needed.
“My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;” Proverbs. 2:1

However, if one never hears or reads God’s words, there will be no wisdom to apply when required. It is vital that one pay close attention to God’s Words and learn them for use in the future.
“So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;” Proverbs. 2:2

Many “hear” God’s wisdom, but it makes little difference in their lives. Their foolishness still leads them, and God’s wisdom does not guide them. Mistakes and regrets are much a part of their lifestyles. Perhaps it does not change their lives because they were not looking for understanding in the first place. They may be content with their spiritual blindness.
“Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;” Proverbs. 2:3

It amazes me how people are so different. Two can sit together during good Bible preaching. One listens and is drastically affected by what he has heard. He intends to change his life as soon as possible.

The other listener is not affected at all. There is no conviction or desire to apply what is heard in his life. It seems that the message went in one ear and tumbled onto the floor.

Usually, the difference in reactions are because one recognized one’s weaknesses and errors, but the other did not. It seems their “heart” is indifferent and is not seeking wisdom at all.
“If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;” Proverbs. 2:4

Seeking, hearing, trusting, AND obeying the Word of God can make a big difference in one’s life. Those actions are the key to having the mind (I Cor. 2:16) and wisdom of Christ. With His understanding, one’s life will be much different and will be pleasing to one’s self and to the Lord.
“Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs. 2:5

A Quick Look at Proverbs 2 and Learn:

  • One must look for wisdom (Proverbs 2:1-5).
  • The Lord gives wisdom (Proverbs 2:6).
  • The advantage of His gift is wisdom (Proverbs 2:7-9).
  • His wisdom changes one’s life (Proverbs 2:10-19).
  • The result of accepting or rejecting His wisdom: (Proverbs 2:20-22).

Today’s Thought:
“The intellect of the wise is like glass; it admits the light of Heaven and reflects it.” — Hare
